FloWal Police Zone

Proposal submitted as part of the competition for the construction of a new police station for the FloWal Police Zone (Florennes-Walcourt).

With a total area of just over 3,000 m², the building comprised three levels on which the different zones were organized: reception areas, the cell block, locker rooms, operational areas, the relaxation area, the administrative area, and finally the logistics area.

The interior layouts were designed with a focus on functionality, durability, and ergonomic quality, but also on aesthetic appeal and the enhancement of the workspace.

For the exterior metal cladding, we had envisioned a skin for the main volume of the upper floor, a metallic lace that changes with the viewpoint. This expansive screen provided variation in the facades while unifying the proposed volume.

The choice of materials was primarily guided by a concern for durability, based on the material’s impact on human health and the environment throughout its entire life cycle.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the distinction between the “public” zone and the “police” zone was clearly managed in the overall organization of the Police station. Access to the building, whether for the public or for police and administrative staff, was designed to be distinct and through various systems allowing for permanent control of everyone’s comings and goings.
