Liège University Hospital – “Winner of the competition for the construction of a new tower”

Construction of a new building at the Liège University Hospital on the Sart Tilman site, covering more than 40,000 m².

Tower 7 is located in a decentralized area of the CHU site. It is surrounded by parking areas to the north and west and by the existing logistics quay to the south. It can only be connected to the existing buildings on the side of Tower 2 to the east. The site’s level differences, the beautiful distant views of the surrounding forest, and the building orientation are assets to be highlighted for Tower 7.

At level -1 are the Emergency Departments, with private and ambulance arrivals separated.

At level 0, the focus is on connecting Tower 7 to its immediate surroundings: the existing ground-level parking to the north will be replaced by P112/P116, and a future tree-lined park, connected via a pedestrian path, will highlight the main entrance of Tower 7.

The natural slope of the site allows patients and visitors to enjoy a landscaped park and a directly accessible drop-off area near the entrance hall of Tower 7.

This significant visual connection with the park (and the green roof at level 0) enhances the well-being of level 0 visitors, patients, and staff on the upper floors (intensive care, delivery suite, maternity, gynecology consultations, offices, and meeting rooms).

Vehicular access will be designed to integrate into the park while meeting the accessibility standards for emergency vehicles (access to the main façade of Tower 7).

The various functions like day hospital, intensive care, maternity, neonatology, gynecology, and CASCO are distributed across the five upper floors, which are connected by a central temperate atrium.

On the roof, there is a “Heliport” area, an aluminum platform intended for medical helicopters.

The project study is also structured around four sustainability pillars: energy, comfort, water, and materials.
