Social Housing – Huy

Located in the city center, the project involves the redevelopment of a plot currently used as a parking lot into five social housing units.

Considering the urban character and intrinsic features of grouped housing, the project aims for a strong visual identity with two facets.

The first facet is the pursuit of unity among the entities, expressed through a common architectural language and material choices. Despite this intended unity, the second facet should, upon closer inspection, reflect the identity and diversity of each individual unit.

Additionally, the design of the units aims to provide high-quality interior and exterior spaces, as well as adaptability, particularly for persons with reduced mobility.

Regarding the layout, it is based on a sequence of three entities arranged along the street. The L-shaped design of the entities allows for the creation of entrance courtyards and private parking spaces, keeping the roadway free from unwanted occupation.

On the upper floor, the rectangular volumes create terraces for the first-floor units. To limit the block-like effect, the three entities are spaced either by the access stairs to the first-floor units or by the semi-public access serving the rear of the plot. This arrangement enables a high-quality project while preserving the existing notable trees.
