Inauguration of the New Energy-Positive Municipal Daycare Center in Verlaine

19 October 2026

The municipal daycare center “Les Tout-Petits du Poncha” was inaugurated in Verlaine, in the presence of the Municipal Council and Valérie Lescrenier, the Walloon minister responsible, among other things, for early childhood. Designed in collaboration with BAG, this new building accommodates 28 children divided into three sections and also includes ONE consultation rooms, accessible via a separate entrance.

Set in a green and open environment, the new building features a functional layout, primarily on one level, where each space is organized according to a clear hierarchy between public areas, reception spaces, and staff-only areas.

Each of the three sections features bright activity areas, adapted sleeping quarters, care rooms, and direct access to the outdoors. This layout also helps limit overheating of the interior spaces and keeps outdoor areas away from building entrances and traffic routes.

The project also places a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainable development. As a low-energy building, it is designed to be net-positive in energy consumption thanks to a combination of heat pumps, photovoltaic panels installed on the roof and in the gardens, and insulation made from bio-based materials, notably wood fiber and cork.

Supported by Wallonia as part of its Recovery Plan, the project combines a high-quality care environment, functionality, and a commitment to the environment, all designed to serve the families in the municipality.
