New canopies and classrooms for the municipal school of Oreye

27 May 2026

The school in Oreye has inaugurated its two new covered playgrounds, a kindergarten classroom, and a multipurpose room, the result of a collaboration with Thierry Biron Architecte.

Working on this compact school site required listening carefully to its users and responding to numerous constraints: a limited plot, a remarkable tree to preserve, existing access routes to maintain, and the need to keep the school fully operational throughout the construction works.

Our architectural approach was to bring the interventions together around a rediscovered central space rather than simply adding separate elements. The courtyard becomes the heart of the site, and each new structure helps to define it.

The choice of materials and the green roofs on all the new buildings anchor the project in its surroundings while ensuring thoughtful rainwater management.

A project completed for the Commune d’Oreye with Thomassen & Fils and Keppenne Menuiserie.
